This pistol is the stunt version of the more detailed close-up first
season laser pistol. It is derived from the same 1960s toy
ray gun called the Okinawa gun. However it is without sight and cross
hair and does not have the gold rim around barrel. Typically, stunt
pieces like this pistol are less detailed and lighter so when an actor
is running or carrying the prop it is easier and more confortable
to handle.
The pistol is heavily featured at the beginning of the first season episode "One
of our Dogs is Missing" in a scene where Maureen, Judy and Dr. Smith go
searching for the chariot just after a meteor storm. The pistols drawn
by Maureen and Judy are stunt pistols. It is also featured later in the
episode when the little dog appears at the top of the hill and Maureen draws
her pistol. It appears again in a scene during the monster attack
when the dog grabs the pistol on the ground and takes it to Will.
The pistol the dog picks up is the stunt version but when he drops
it and Will picks it up there is a cutaway and Will is then seen holding
the more detailed "hero" version. It also appears in the episode
"Space Pirate" so watch for it in both episodes!
The pistol is made of fiber glass and is painted with black lead paint (now
illegal in the US). Dimensions of the pistol are: 13 inches from red
tip to black barrel (front to back); 6 inches in height at largest
point from base of trigger to top; 2 3/4 inches width in thickest part,
main barrel section. Compared to most other stunt props, this pistol is
quite heavy and solid.
