In June of 1996 Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
released the final installment of 2nd season Australian
Lost in Space tapes: volumes 25-30. Accompanying each
of these volumes was a pack of 5 exclusive Lost in Space
collectible cards. The card packs were packaged with
the tape themselves and held together with two small white
removable stickers. No wrapper was issued.
Each card numbered 1 to 30 represents in consecutive
order, a color episode scene from season 2 starting with
"Blast Off into Space" and ending with "The Galaxy Gift."
The card faces show a color still from the episode framed
by an irregular shaped starry night sky border. Cards in landscape
format are actually digitized stills from the series while cards
in portrait format (#4 & #19) are based on photograph stills from Glenn
Ware's own private collection. The backs of the cards show
a different color episode scene in the top half, together with
brief episode notes and first US airing dates in the bottom half.
Ken Taylor from Twentieth Century Home Entertainment is responsible for the
overall design of the card set. Episode notes were supplied by Glenn Ware.
This 30 color card set was made available exclusively in
volumes 25-30 of the Australian tape set and is the
first color card set ever produced for the series! At the
time of this writing the cards were not obtainable outside of
Australia but they are making their way into the states and other
parts of the world. It has been reported that this promotional
set has been limited to 2,000 sets only.
